Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. What age range do you cater for at Ickle Giggles?

We provide care and early education for children aged 6 months to 5 years, ensuring tailored support for each developmental stage. Our setting is divided into age-appropriate groups to cater to the specific needs of babies, toddlers, and preschoolers.

2. What are your opening hours?

We are open from 7.30am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays and Christmas closure. Our extended hours are designed to support busy families with flexible childcare solutions.

3. What qualifications do your staff have?

All our staff are highly qualified and experienced in early years education. Many hold Level 3 childcare qualifications or higher, and all team members undergo regular professional development and safeguarding training to maintain the highest standards of care.

4. How do you ensure the safety of the children?

Safety is our top priority. Our premises are equipped with secure entry systems, and all play areas are carefully designed to minimise risks. Additionally, our staff are fully trained in paediatric first aid, and we adhere to strict staff-to-child ratios in line with statutory guidelines.

5. Do you accommodate children with allergies or special dietary requirements?

Yes, we cater to all dietary needs, including allergies and intolerances. Our team works closely with families to ensure that every child’s requirements are fully understood and met, and our kitchen operates in accordance with strict food safety standards.

6. What is your approach to learning and development?

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, offering a mix of structured activities and free play to support all areas of a child’s development. Our child-centred approach ensures that every child is encouraged to learn at their own pace in a fun, stimulating environment.

7. Do you offer funding options for childcare?

Yes, we accept government funding, including 15 and 30 hours of free childcare for eligible families. Our team can guide you through the application process and help you maximise the funding available to you.

8. What is your policy for settling in new children?

We offer a personalised settling-in process tailored to the needs of each child and their family. This includes introductory visits, allowing your child to become familiar with our environment and staff, ensuring a smooth and positive transition into nursery life.

9. How do you communicate with parents about their child’s progress?

We believe in maintaining open and transparent communication with parents. Regular updates are shared through [daily handovers, progress reports, or an online app if applicable]. Additionally, we hold parent meetings to discuss your child’s development and achievements.

10. What is included in your fees?

Our fees cover all aspects of your child’s care, snacks, and a wide range of learning materials and activities. Additional services, such as outings or special events, may incur a small supplementary charge, which will always be communicated in advance.

11. Snacks and Meals

We ask parents to provide their child’s lunch, as this ensures they can enjoy the food they know and love from home. We provide a healthy fruit snack in the morning, helping to keep little tummies happy and energy levels balanced throughout the day.

12. Difference between Childminders and Nurseries

We are often asked about the difference between Childminders and Nurseries.  Both childminders and nurseries provide quality childcare, but the experience can feel quite different. Childminders usually care for smaller groups of children in a warm, home-based environment, allowing for more individual attention, flexible routines, and a strong family-style atmosphere. Nurseries tend to be larger settings with bigger groups, structured timetables and a more school-like feel. Many families choose a childminder because it offers a personal, nurturing ‘home-from-home’ experience, where children can grow and flourish with consistency, comfort and close bonds — something we are proud to provide here at Ickle Giggles.
